Comparing Decimals, Fractions and Percentages II

Lesson

Now that we know how to convert both fractions and decimals into percentages, it's time to play around with them a bit and compare these different types of numbers.

Let's take a look at the following question:

Examples

QUESTION 1

Find the number amongst $$425%, $$1.09, $$611000, $$43%, $$815 that is closest to $$50%

Think how can I put them all in the same form so I can compare them easily?

Do Let's convert $$1.09$$611000 and $$815 into percentages.

$$1.09 $$= $$1.09×100%
  $$= $$109%

$$611000 $$= $$611000×100%
  $$= $$6100%1000
  $$= $$6.1%

$$815 $$= $$815×100%
  $$= $$800%15
  $$= $$5313 $$%

$$425% < $$6.1% < $$43% < $$5313% < $$109%

Therefore we can see that the percentage that is closest to $$50% is $$5313% which comes from $$815.

QUESTION 2

Compare: $$0.31 and $$45%

  1. First convert $$0.31 to a percentage.

  2. Which of the two values is greater?

    $$45%

    A

    $$0.31

    B

QUESTION 3

Consider the statement:

$$6750 > $$154%

  1. First convert $$6750 to a percentage

  2. Hence, is the statement True or False?

    True

    A

    False

    B
